Has anyone tried running Home Depot power compact lighting on any reef tanks.? Lights of America makes a 125 w 1620 lumens PC. It is sold at home depot for 7.95

I've used them for refugium lighting, but the color isn't good IMO for a reef tank. I think they are in the neighborhood of 5000-6500K.

They grew caulerpa and Xenia just fine though.

I really question the price you posted. The 40 watt is a 6500K bulb. I bought that for around $30.00 it has much better coloring (to my eyes) the the Iwasaki. The 65w is also a 6500K bulb. I don't know about the 125w coloring. You can call Lights of America they'll tell you. As for a 5-10 gallon tank I would think you'll be fine with that. You may want to do some custumizing on the light fixture and maybe build a reflector.

are you sure it isn't just a 125watt equivalent light? That would make more sense with your lumen rating. That would be like a 27watt PC.

I have one and the 27 watt number is right-on. Got it at wal mart. Got it to play with, utility light, but I bet on a 10 gallon nano it would be much better than any other simple/cheep solution.

Refugium too.
