MH unit, need help with setting it up

Im about to get a 48in MH unit that i will be hanging from the ceiling. Anyone have any good advice for the best method of hanging this badboy? also what is a good height from my 30gal tank? When I first put it on and when i get new fish there after, whats the acclimation method(height wise) for this setup? thanks

There's lots of ways of doing things, need more specifics:

What type of fixture/wattage?
What inhabitants/current light?

when you acclimate don't only think about height but also time, you might have to cut the light period back and ramp it up.

ok, its a hamilton 48in dual 175watt with 80 watts of actinics. currently just a 40 watt florescent 50/50 light. The current inhabitants are just damsels and a horeshow crab. also about 18#'s of LR

doesn't look like you have anything to acclimate. I'd shoot for ~ 6" off the water surface. and ramp up the photoperiod from 4 hours so that you don't get too big of an algae problem to start.
