Hawaii/Mantis Shrimp Easy to Find ?

Hey All,
I am leaving for Hawaii this Friday and was wondering is it easy to catch Mantis shrimps ? Are they deep water or what ?

Mine took me three weeks to catch. in 16" of water. (my 15 gal ) so, I guess it depends on what you consider deep.

Try your question over at reef central, on thier mantis forum, you may get more responses there.

Catch one in the wild? unlikely. One of the smartest inverts going. Hard enough to catch them within the tank. In the open wild I'd think it would be pretty damn hard.

yes you can!!!!!!
I caught my mantis. I live on oahu, and I caught mantis at many beaches. the easiest way is to just pick a porus rock and put it in a bucket for a few minutes. you'll most likley get a few. if you want the big ones just use a net! they get HUGE at waikiki! hey if ya want any info or tips on where to visit just ask! i lived here for 16years
