My 135 is set up for the primary purpose of (eventually - 1 year from now when the tank is extremely rich in foods) housing Mandarins to breed (with any luck).

I got 2 Chromis last night for free and am wondering if they will damage the sacrosanct 'pod population that I am cultivating.

Your thoughts?

I had four green chromis and now two. They seem to not eat the pods at all. Their numbers are crazy at night and they can be seen all over my 40 gallon tank. So this is my observation. I know the green chromis will eat at any time. Because when I feed some of my corals at night they'll come right on out and try to eat the feedings, too.

I am not sure if you are referring to the chromis damsel or the psuedochromis. But the question you should ask is if there are any chromis species that doesn't eat pods. 8O

I don't believe mine eat 'pods. I've got 4 and my pod population is huge. My guys don't like the dark either - they never come out at night.

The do keep having babies though. 8)

My green chromis never ate/eat pods at all. From the looks of it, they are water column planktonic feeders and do not feed from the substrate or rock. This is very noticeable when I feed the tank - if the food isn't suspended in the water column, they won't touch it.
