Could I use a 4W GE night light for a night light for my 29g? Looks pretty cool, but would it stress out my fish and corals?

I'd turn it off when you are done. Many critters need a truely dark period to go out and about. But if you left it on, I doubt it would do much harm.

I use a 7 watt nightlight w/ a blue bulb for moonlight simulation over my tank. No problems so far for the last 2 years. :D

They're just about three dollars for two. And in Blue or Green.

i use blue rope lights...it works great. cheap too. I wanted to use xmas lights but I did this in the summer. I figured the advantage of xmas lights would be the ability to pull bulbs for a dimmer or brighter effect...

Happy night viewing.

yeah, you probably have something way bigger than I do.

I just have this little dinky piece of aquatic residence in my possession.

I was under the impression that the light was just so my fish friends weren't in complete darkness. The Marine Aquarium Reference, says that even in the ocean at night there is light. Moonlight, starlight, and even light producing animals in the depths.

I usually just use the redlight thing to see in the night or quickly "flashlight" them.

some people think it can stimulate spawning but the jury is out on that. I think it's more for looks than anything

Is there a real benefit of having a night light, other than to please the aquarist?

You're not gonna trick a coral into thinking a night light is the moon. I've had two tank spawns without a moon light.
