I have a 120 FOWLR and was wondering if it was neccessary to put a screen over my overflow to prevent snails from entering my overflow? I think it shouldn't be covered so that they can clean the overflow. Any suggestions. Thanks

I use eggcrate to cover my overflow box....if u have an overflow box u should cover it too...if a snail gets in there and blocks the u-tube the water will stop siphoning and u will have to buy a very big mop....and alot of tissue to clean up the couple of gallons of water that'll end up on your floor...

I find snails that have escaped into my sump all the time. It depends how big your overflows are. Mine are an 1 1/2 drains and they seem to just get flushed down there w/o any resistance. Anything smaller and I would really worry.

i used the gutter gard mesh with zip ties to hold it in place...cheap, flexible easy to use..

my problem was a clownfish that loved to jump into the overflow...now he gets bounced right back in the tank if he tries.
