about a month ago i got some kalkwasser and had never used it before... my LFS had not properly instructed me on how to use it so i almost poured like 6g in at one time but thankfully read up on the web about it, it said to dose it slowly.. so i was. anyhow it was still to fast and my PH ended up jumping to 8.9 that night.. i took emergency measures and did everything i could, anyway to make a long story short.. over the last month its stabilized for about 3 weeks at 8.5-8.6. is this life threatening over the long run? i cant seem to get it down any lower.. water change after water change it stays the same. so today i did all my tests to see how things were.. PH 8.6 KH 14 calcium 410. my tanks about 4.5 months old. all critters and corals seem to be holding out.. my polyps look better than ever, all of them.. its almost like theyre thriving in the water conditions. so how harmful is this in the long run? how can i get my PH and KH down? im doing water changes with RO/DI water.

Do nothing, just sit back and relax. The PH will naturally come down by itself, as you've proven to yourself doing water changes isn't doing anything to help. Once things level out at a range that you feel comfortable with resume dosing kalk, at a bit slower rate this time.

okay.. so i guess i shouldnt worry. i was thinking maybe if it stayed up high for too long it could stress my animals out and theyd start taking it badly. my LFS said it would come down on its own too eventualy but after a month of it still not i was starting to think maybe this was as far down as it would go. ill relax and just let it do its thing. i dont think ill ever dose with kalk again. that stuff is evil hehe. thanks alot :)

Naw it just takes a little practice, don't let it scare you off from using it.

once your alk drops-either by itself or with water changes-the pH should follow suit.stop the kalkvasser for now, and wait-it will drop

dose only with a Ca supp. (the part from b-ionic works well) if it falls too far as your alk drops.
