Hi,
I currently have a 2inch crushed coral bed and I was hoping to get a finer sand. Can I add Aragonite sand from home depot to the top of my existing bed. Or should I remove the whole bed and just add a new bed?

This issue has ben discussed may times on this board. Try doing a searchh. You'll find the answer to your question quite easily.

Read all of the article my Dr. Shimek at this site: http://www.atlantisaquatic.com/dsb.html

After reading these articles, you'll be fairly well versed at DSB's. Then it's just a matter of deciding how to do it.

I think your search will lead you to remove your crushed coral, and replacing it with the appropriate grain-sized sand (aka, Southdown playsand, available at some Home Depots).

After reading up on this topic, I've decided to just replace my substrate with the finer stuff.

If it is possible for you, I would advise that you remove your existing gravel bed a small section at a time and replace each removed section wth the new fine sand. This way you will get the new sand seeded from the old bed and not disrupt the life in your tank so much. I did this on a 4 foot long tank and removed the gravel in 5 lots with a week between each removal.
Hope this comment helps.
