I am going through a strange cyano cycle. Well maybe more routine than strange. I have tested my pre and post ro/di water. I have .6 phosphate and 1 silicon oxide going in and 0 phosphate and .5 silicon oxide coming out.

My prefilters are at least a year old and I know i should replace them since my his60 is getting about 5 gallons a day instead of 60. Its a kent ro/d1 4 stage. Do i have to get these through kent or can i get different brands? Who do you buy your Replacement cartridges from?I should only have to replace the 2 prefilter and the di and not the membrane right??

The strange part about my brown sand is...It develops in the moring before lights on. I have lots of ambient bright light non direct though. And once the sun goes down the brown stuff breaks up and by lights out 3 hours later its usually gone...is this routine?

Should I get a kent phospharte sponge to remove tank phosphate and silicates until my new cartridges arrive?

Thanks
D

I use a Kent Maxima and change the D.I cartridge every 2 months, the pre-filter when it turns from white to a reddish brown (your water make up may be differrent) and my carbon filter every 6 months. My water is near perfect and shows no NO3, PO4 or silicates, it also prolongs the life of the membrane which after all is the expensive component. I always use the Kent products as they are spot on. No need to use a phosphate sponge as you said the outflow has a nil reading!
