I just purchased a piece of montipora from the Hidden Reef and it started to beach out about an hour after I put it in the tank. Is there anything I can do? I acclimated the coral by floating the bag to get the temp the same and then used superglue to glue it in place. Did I do something wrong? This is my first stony so maybe I messed up.

We will need to know about your tank (water prams, tank specs including light & filtration) before anyone could comment...

I had a similar reaction with a montipora cap. when my alk level had dipped way the heck down. Do quick calcium, alk, and pH tests and see if everything is in order. Also, are you sure it's bleaching or could the tissue actually be falling off?

Royy, if your tank params turn out OK, be sure not to give up on the monti until you are sure all the flesh is gone. My first frag of monti declined for a while (may have placed it when my tank was still too new), until it was down to just a small area that was alive. Then the remaining portion suddenly got its color back and has been growing well ever since. I have a lot of montis now, I like them alot. Colorful and fast-growing.

I'm with monkeyboy. I just don't see bleaching happen this fast. Infection and subsequent tissue loss is a whole different story. Unfortunately the two terms began to be called bleaching interchangably.

I've got $10 that its an infection (kiss it goodbye).
