I strongly dislike the use of the sponge on the ouput of the skimmer and would like to remove it. Has anyone else come up with a replacement/solution to this?

Thanks!

Paul

I run my Euroreef with the sponge on. I clean it very infrequently, but have had no problems with using it.

I have heard people plumbing the outet with PVC and redirecting the outflow. I've also heard people use plastic or styrofoam cups/bowls (circle cut out in the middle and snuglly placed through the pipe) to slow the water. I can't comment on how well either works as I've never tried them, but wanted to relay to you some ideas I've heard.

I have a number of Euro-reef skimmers including a CS6-2,CS8-3,CS12-1, I run all of them WITHOUT the sponge filter. The sponge isnt necessary at all, and they still run just as quiet.

I've been having problems with AOL for a few weeks now. If the link above doesn't work try to copy and paste it.

Definitely one of my gripes with this design...who wants a cascade of water into their sump? ER and the other skimmer manufacturers should really look into designing in sump skimmers with submerged returns (yes I know that this affects the skimmer water level, but it can be designed to avoid this)

Euro-reef does accomadate this idea for those where water noise is a concern and people dont want to use the foam insert, its a special request when ordering. Though my 3 ER's are still extremely quiet, in fact I cant hear any of mine. The actual tank overflow returns would be my first concern.

I just piped mine down and along the waters surface in the sump. Its the older F1 model. Not sure if that matters.
