pc VS vho actinics

A guy I work with runs Coralife standard 03 bulbs and the Ice cap ballast runs them at the VHO level.
Same output, less cost, 6-8 month life.
And they have the internal reflector just like VHO bulbs.
I haven't gotten the courage to try yet myself.
Last time I orded bulbs, I went through Marine Depot and the cost difference was minimal between VHO and standard that I went with VHO bulbs.


Anyone else had experience with running standard bulbs in a VHO fixture?

What's the average lifetime for VHO bulbs? 6 months?

I ran the last set for 12 months.
When I put the new ones in, I didn't notice any difference.
