Was curious. Do bristle worms eat clams? I have 4 inch sand bed and I know I have a couple and 1 seven inch solid red one. I am starting to do research now.
Yes they do, but no they don't. Confussing huh. In my experiences they do eat clams once the clam has already gone south. If the clam is healthy, not a problem. If you have a clam go on you, you'll find a bristle worm in it for sure. That's not to say the worm caused it's death. Only that the worm saw an opportunity to chow. Lighting, Ca, strongium, and other nuitients are what will make or brake your clam.
I agree with Rob - every dead clam found in a reef tank has had a bristle worm (or few) in it - but the BWs didn't do the dirty deed!
Sufficient lighting is very important to overall clam health, but of equal importance, IMO, especially for smaller clams, is feeding phytoplankton. Smaller clams depend less on lighting than larger clams, so feed them!
