I have a Kent Marine RO/DI 60gpd unit that I've been using for a little over a year. I run it for about 10 hours every two weeks. What is the life expectancy of the various filter cartridges? I think it's almost time to replace them.

Thanks!

It all depends on your input water so it is not possible to answer your question. I check mine with a TDS meter which tells me when to change out.

The 1 Micron Sediment Filter and the Carbon Block will need replacing most often and the proper way to determine their status is through the use of an in-line pressure guage between the carbon canister and the RO membrane. As they become clogged, operating pressure will fall off and it will be time to replace them.

A TDS meter is the best way to determine the life of a DI cartridge and membrane. Most people use color changing DI's however the non-color changing DI's last longer though even a completely changed color changing cartridge often still has useable life in it but that can only be determined by a handheld TDS meter.

Most places that sell RO units also sell the TDS meters - we have em at:

Spectrapure recommends changing prefilters at LEAST every 6 months (if not, sooner). Membranes can last up to two years (if a flush kit is employed) before needing replacement. TDS meter is the best way to determine if your DI cartridge is spent.
