Honestly, I've used Salifert and Hagen (sorry) and both were pretty good, but I would recommend Salifert for a dead on balls accurate test.

Just about every product Red Sea makes including their test kits blows IMO.

Tropic Marin and Salifert are my preferred brands.

Red Sea kits are horrible. Almost every post of people not getting calcium passed 200ppm are from people using bad Red Sea kits.

I recommend Lamotte kits. Initial purchase is a bit more, but refills are dirt cheap. Cheaper to use over the long run. Secondly, they are not made for the aquarium hobby which speaks for itself. High quality and accurate.

Thanx Rich. I use Lamotte for all of my tests but no one in the area sells them (at least none that I know of). I hate waiting a week for a $15 order to come in LoL.

Lamotte is it.
Salifert has problems with there : Zn + Cu2+ - Zn2+ + Cu

Just check out your redox when study on Co2+ ozone- chilled Reactor test and you will see your rH relation between mV and pH for the formula:
rH=Mv/29 + (2xpH) + 6,67

The Hagen test are flawed the same and if you have a reactor c02,ozone, you can see the problems with both companies. We have study on this for 18+yrs.

"Can we Fathom our Reality?"

Well, if you were stupid enough to make your tank out of galvanized steel instead of glass, I'm not surprised that you have that problem.

For the rest of us, the Salifert kit works fine, as does the Hach kit.

ZING!!!!

I currently have a Hagen which is a pita to use. I am determined to get my money's worth out of it though (gives reasonable results), when it finally runs out I will get the Salifert.

C5H4O3N4,

If you would know a bit more chemistry and know the alphabet you would know that the N comes before the O.

So that would be C5H4N4O3.

Now let's see what organic substance has this formula...........Uric acid! :D

Salifert has problems with there : Zn + Cu2+ - Zn2+ + Cu

Since this is a serious thread, can you explain what the problem is?
Don't forget to look at my screen name

Salifert,
Are you the chief chemist there? I like Salifert test kits! 8)
I'm sure you know that C5H403N4 a.k.a Saltcritter is nutz!
By the way, the '0' in C5H403N4 is the number zero, not the letter 'O' for oxygen. That 5 carbon molecule has 403 hydrogen atoms!!!

I've been waiting a very long time for these 3 people to all be in the same thread together. I suspect that we will not hear from C5H403N4 for a little while. From what I understand, he is working on [slightly] less annoying identity whose purpose is to validate:

A. Saltcritter is rich and important.
B. C5H403N4 is not a basket case.

Tanzy, Habib Sehka is a contributor to Randy's Reef Chemistry forum over at RC. He is also the Godfather of Salifert :)

Hi,

The color change goes from red/pink through purple and then to blue.
Do you see the intermediate color change to purple?
Please let me know it. Also if you don't see that let me please know what happens to the colors according to your eyes.

Hopefully we can find a way to make you happy. :)

TIA
