I've been using Instant Ocean for years and I've had a brown slime on the water in my mixing garbage can for about two years that wasnt' there before that period of time. It doesn't seem to hurt anything, but I was wondering what would cause the slime. I use RO/DI water and mix my salt in a Rubbermade grey (food safe) container. The slime isn't there unless I mix in the salt mix. The RO/DI and mixing container is located in our laundry room.

Does anyone know what this stuff is and what you should do to keep it from happening?

Please respond and thanks,

Dave

Years back when I used tap water with IO salt I used to get a brown film on the bottom of the bucket. After using DI water the film never came back. I always assumed it was just the tap water's nutrients that would settle at the bottom.
