I posted a question on the DIY forum, trying to get some info on how to build a RO/DI system using a couple of house filters.....No response, yet!! I know someone knows, out there!!!

So, can anyone tell me how a RO/DI system (3 or 5 stage) works - explaining the different components, each component's function, and how it's connected to the water supply (house plumbing)??? Pictures or diagrams would be really wonderful!!

Or, direct me to a website or thread which explains it for me.

Basically, in a 4 stage filter the supply water comes from a source. From there, it enters a micron filter of some sort to remove any partuculates. The discharge from this filter feeds the input of the 2nd stage which will be a carbon filter. From the discharge the carbon filter, the water enters the input of the RO unit. The waste water from the RO goes into the drain and the good water proceeds onto the DI filter for final polishing. Finally, the DI filter discharge goes into your collection container for the good water.

Water In ---> Micron -> Carbon -> RO -> DI ---> Collection Container

Ohh yeah, make sure that you have the water entering your filters canisters around the outside of the filter. The discharge should be the one from the center of the cartridge.

reef_lover-

fwiw-have you tried searching on the bb?-rodi units are probably discussed on quite a few threads here

also-i think most sites will just show you pic's of the outsides of the product they sell

if you're looking for a 'diy' guide to install a 'diy' rodi-a house 'construction/repair/fix it yourself' book may have that kind of info (maybe something like one of those 'time/life home plumbing books, maybe)
