My clownfish recently became closely acquainted with my yellow leather. The leather is on the small side at approximately 2.5 inches in diameter. After a couple of days of the clownfish laying in and swimming through the leather, it looks terrible. It is turning brown and only about half the polyps are extending. Is the coral doomed because of the attachment of the clownfish? Any suggestions.

i would suggest that something about the water quality, or lighting, have alot more to do with it.yellow leathers come from areas of intense light.
a couple of days being 'bothered' by a clown is not likely to cause this much distress.

what's your setup and chemistry like?

Water quality parameters are all fine. All the other corals look great.

Here's what the leather looked yesterday.

And here's what it looks like now.

fwiw-that's not a 'yellow' leather, at least not what most refer to as a yellow leather, which is truly yellow, and has a more 'ruffled'shape, with shorter polyps.

the leather likes fairly strong current-the brownish base is nothing to be concerned about, imho-your leather may be getting ready to 'shed it's wax'.it should eventually get used to the 'pestering' of the clown.
try directing good flow at the leather-about 2-3 inches/second, and be patient-i think it'll be fine, if everything else(light & chemistry)is up to snuff.

sometimes leathers close up completely for extended periods, and then open up fully, like nothing ever happened.if your is a recent addition, this is fairly typical behavior.try a 20% water change and see if it responds.
