Different substrate for FOWLR?

My triggerfish tank currently has around 300lbs of rock and is bare-bottom. I'd like to put a substrate in, but don't want sand, and kinda think crushed coral is boring. Is there anything else I can put in there that's 'different' yet is something my triggerfish can move around? Are there different aggregate sizes for aragonite or crushed coral?

CaribSea does package different sizes of aragonite. Perhaps you could use some combination of sand/aragonite to liven things up a bit! ; )

I love the idea of black sand.......
I used to live in Hawaii and the Big Isalnd had black sand beaches, but I think it was illegal to remove it....
