I have had a yellow tang in my main tank for about 2 months now. I'm noticing now that if I go near the tank he seems to become agressive and display alot. When i say display it's like he leans back (looking at me from the side) and flutters his front fins. I've taken my camcorder and let it run while I am not in the room and he is as peaceful as can be. Any ideas as if this is normal or something to do (besides the obvious, don't go near the tank)? Thanks.

I notice a big difference in the behavior of my fish when view from afar (i.e. me out of the room) and when I am climbing up on a chair in front of the tank and placing my hands/arms in!!

My Rabbit Fish is the wierdest of all, he will come to the water surface (expecting to be fed I presume), and when I don't he begins to try to spit water at me!! It is the wierdest thing, but I swear he does it on purpose!!

Also he is so friendly I can almost hold him in my hand, though I dare not try all the way because I think his dorsal fin has poison like a LionFish/ScorpionFish!!

Is that this seems to be an agressive move, not a friendly one. Just standing in front of the tank seems to stress the fish out. It's real weird because I know the fish is healthy. If you could see it, you'd just know. It is by far the fatest Tang I've ever seen and the absolute brightest yellow. It's just really weird behavior. I wonder if he can see his reflection and thinks it is someone for it to fight.

Your yellow tang must not like you! (j/k) I have had mine since december of 1999 and he always come to the part of the tank im at when ever i come near it. My naso also follows me around the tank, most likely they think they are being fed. I dont think your problem is anything to worry about, just as long as your fish doesnt stress to much. Just my 2 cents

I run 6.5 watts a gallon in VHO's (no MH) and it seems he is ok with no lights on or when the lights are not directly over the tank (they are mounted on the inside of the canopy.) Example, if I feed him I have to lift the canopy up. If I leave the lid up and the tank is not as bright, he is ok.. If I lower the lights he seems to dart around and "flutter" .

I don't see any signs of disease on him or other fish and don't believe water quality to be the problem.

I guess I am wondering is it possible for lighting to be too bright? I've never heard of such a thing.

I have a 90 with a yellow, sailfin, and purple tang with the yellow the boss of the tank. My yellow is also jumpy when im around. He also follows me around the tank, same as the others, when I move about. I think it's a personality trait of the fish, they all seem to have their own different personalities. In other words I don't think it is a problem....

LMAO.... Too funny, whenever your going to work on the tank feed him a little something to see if you can keep the water out of you eyes.. :)
