I just upgraded to a 60 gallon with a built-in overflow. It's current set up is taht the overflow empties into a 20 gallon tank, which I am currently transforming into a refugium. I'm using a Sedra 500 to pump the water from the 20 back into the main tank.
The problem I'm having is that the water dripping into the overflow is making a lot of noise and as this tank is in my bedroom, I need help on how I could lower the noise.

I tried puring water into the overflow but it just empties too quickly. Could I take a few pieces of LR and throw it in to the overflow so that way the water level rises? It would thus increase the water level in the overflow to quiet it?

I'd appreciate any advice I could get on this.

Thanks.

You might want to try a Durso standpipe. This will raise the level of water in your overflow and quite it down quite a bit. Do a search for it and you will find it has come up many times before. You can also check out the link http://www.rl180reef.com/frames.htm. This shows you how to make it piece by piece.
