hi.
Want to visit Scripps Aquarium? Free salt water, but kind of heavy to carry home.

Octopus' Garden in Raytheon St. is pretty good. Small, but knowledgeable people with nice frag from local reefers for sale at $20/frag.

You might also want to run by Aquatic Warehouse at 5466 Complex Street. They are the biggest in town.

Ron at Octopus' garden is the most knowledgeable person I know, he owns it, he loves it, and he takes the time to answer all your questions. He is on Raytheon, kinda hidden. In my experience Aquatic Warehouse is big, but I think they lack on staff knowledge and sometimes they just want to sell you high$ stuff and not take time with you like some of the other stores will. Aquatic Warehouse is on Complex street. Another one of my favorite stores is Vet's Pets on Chase and Avacado, Mike and Chris are helpful. I usually goto Octopus' first, Vet's Pets and then Aquatic Warehouse. Just my prefrences.... :)

Okay... I just happen to be back in San Diego (from DC Area) for a couple of days and of course I checked out the LFS.
All I have to say is Aquatic Warehouse is awesome 8O I've shopped Marine Scene in Herndon, VA and Congressional Aquarium in Rockville, MD and Aquatic Warehouse makes these places look, well, not so special in comparison. Very good prices and VERY GOOD selection! (Fish, Corals, and Inverts).
I also went to Octopuss' Garden and, while the selection wasn't as broad I felt very good about the personalized attention that I received from Ron. Ron indicated that he was in the process of stocking in more livestock in the next 1-2 weeks (as he waited out the last few days of hot weather in SoCal). They also had pretty good prices to boot.
Just my $0.02 - HTH

Aquatic Warehouse and Octopus's Garden are my favorite places to shop for animals and equipment. Ron at Octopuss' Garden goes out of his way to help you. His selection is varied, but not as large as Aquatic Warehouse. Aquatics can be a mad house on the weekends. They are both worth visiting.
