Hi All. I'm in the process of moving my tank to another location in the same house. The new tank is a little larger, but the big plus is that i have built it into the wall of our stairs. I do have a small concern though...

The new tank has been in place, filled with water, and reef crystals. It is currently at 79 degrees and has a high volume powerhead circulating the water until the move happens. After five days the ater has not cleared. I've never experienced anything like this. Whenever I have mixed water in the past, it has always been clear within a few hours. The sg is on target and there is no sand in the tank yet. I'm sure it will be fine after the move and everything settles but this leaves me wondering.

Has anyone else experienced any problems with a fresh batch of saltwater being cloudy days after being mixed? Any ideas as to the cause? Thanks.

Some batches of salt will have more insolubable particles than other batches. Usually it will settle out or be filtered out. It can't do that in a tank with a high rate of circulation and no filtration. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about. A sponge or diatom filter will clean it up real quick.

Try killing the pump and letting it settle out so you can siphon the stuff out. Was the salt hard or lumpy at all when you mixed it?
