I have a Jbjlighting 96w*2 and the daylight bulb isn't working. I went and replace it after two weeks of usage and even the replacement bulb didn't work. I think its the bulbs because I have the 7.1k blue bulb and switched sockets which works fine. So its such a bummer and stuff. I sent an email to the company since the place that I got it from said they won't be replacing it for me next time it goes out. =/

I hope my corals don't die. The closest lighting that I have is a 30w*2 lighting and I don't think that is enough.

Should I use the 30w*2 or should I just leave the blue light on till I get a response from the company?

Your corals will be fine for a day or three, but if you are going to get into a drawn-out battle over who should pay for your new lights, I would try to find a way to provide for the corals. Maybe your LFS will lend or rent you some. Or else, you could just suck it up, buy new ones, and if the replacements eventually come through, you have backups or an excuse to start another tank.

I had my tank running on only the actinic for about a week. Don't ask me why, but my corals after that one week of only actinic light seemed to grow healthier... Colors got sharper, and they would extend further... Maybe it was getting enough ambient light or somrthing, I dont know... I saw no ill affects of runing no daylight for a week, but I wouldnt suggest pushing it either...

When that happened, the LFS claimed that more than likely a fish "freaked out" splashing, ect and caused the bulb to die out. Took a week for the owner to come back from a trip and tell me that no they wouldnt honor a replacement... bulb lasted a week. I dont shop there anymore...

I think there may be a pattern here. I also have a JBJ Formosa 2x96w fixture and have been having a nightmare with replacement bulbs. I wanted to replace my still functional actinic bulb with a 10k daylight bulb to provide more PAR value. I've now been through four faulty replacement bulbs and couldn't be more frustrated.

I posted a message at Reef Central that goes into all of the gorey details. If you are interested, look for the thread "Multiple PC bulb failures". In my case as well, each new tube burned out in two days or less, in both bulb locations, and each time my other two bulbs continued to work when switched out.

I also sent an email to JBJ, so be sure to send them one as well. They told me that they sometimes get bad lots and asked for the code on the ceramic base. In my case it was 2C. I'd be interested to see if yours is the same. I think they have quality control problems and the customer should not be the one to suffer given how expensive these things are.
