I need to replace the pump on my in sump berlin classic skimmer.
90 gallon tank 20 gallon sump.
I've searched the boards and it sounds like mag run too hot, so what would be a better choice?
how many gph rating has worked for the rest of you?
as always, thank you.

I was offered a RIO 2500 as a replacement. It does the job, but raised the temp in a 75gal. two degrees. It also has this hum.....

Hope that helps.

p.s. The RIO 2500 pushes 780gph.

I got a Mag. They don't run that hot in the water. And it shows no signs of losing pressure sfter 6 months.

As a general matter, RIO's are (IME and there are many posts on this) unreliable with a tendency to short out. I removed them entirely from my set up years ago and now use them exclusively for maintanence (mixing salt water, pumping water back to the tank, etc.) - The MAG is a good pump - used as a submerisble, its relatively quiet and I don't think it generates more heat than other submersibles.

Another option is to get the Turbo kit. This is a pump furnished by Red Sea for the Classic and upgrades it to the Turbo model. It replaces the venturi in the skimmer and generates the bubbles in the pump. It is very quiet and works well. I had problems in the beginning and they sent a new impeller two times while they were working out the bugs. Works well now.

I have good success with the mag 7. Also ran a rio 2500 for a while (which came with all the fittings to hook it up to the berlin).
