Today I bought a Red Open Brain. They are quite hard to find around here. What flesh he has is looking healthy, but I can see a bit of septa through the mouth, and there is some skeleton showing. This is the only specimen I've seen im my 10 months of reefing. Is there anything I can do for this animal besides wait and see? There is a little algae growing on the skeleton.

OK, looking through ID's it may be Goeffroyi Trachyphyllia, but it was sold to me as wellsophyllia.

Squeezix,
Since no one replied, I'll just give a shot. The genus Wellsophyllia has been eliminated. I think what you are referring to is a Trachyphyllia radiata.
You should try to remove the algae without hurting the coral tissue. Sort of pull them off, not scrub. Feeding helps if it is willing to eat. Coax it with a bit of food like silversides or shrimp(although the ones I keep do not particularly like shrimp), if it takes it, then it may have a higher chance of making it. It has been suggested dosing Iodine helps this genus of corals but it is of mixed reviews.
Also, since it's red, it may be from deeper waters compared to the green morphs, so indirect MH is preferred.
How's your other corals doing?

Thank you, tomorrow I will move to shade and try to clean. My Trachyphyllia Geoffroyii and Caulastrea Furcata are spectacular, as well as my softies. In this tank, this is my first problem coral. I'm going to check on it in the dark and see if it will feed.
