i have some button polyps that i thought was getting bleached from to much light. It looked like some of the centers where turning white and so i moved it down in the tank.then more became white and so on .then they started not opening up and balling up. now i got them from a tank at the lfs that also had pc's on them so i dont think it was the light.question is now some are starting to waste away and it looks like this thing is progresive.

Now i have other corals that are great ,and tank parameters are fine so could this be a specific sickness in this coral. should i take them out so they will not pollute my tank?i feel bad because some are still alive..............thanks

ps.i do weekly water changes and never had a problem in this tank or coral..,

I keep mine in two systems: one is 27w powercompact, the other is 250w metal halide. They do fine in both so it is unlikely the lighting.

You say your water parameters are fine but it would be helpful to know what they are. Not all corals will show the same distress at the same time. Some go first. I have seen something similar from low alkalinity. Also, it would be helpful to know what you dose. Some people dose things they can't or don't measure, like iodine, and it can be easy to overdose. Some soft polyps like green star polyps are sensitive to iodine additions. Maybe zoanthids are also.

I have also seen zoanthids damaged by pouring fresh water or kalk on them. Is this a possibility? Just thinking off the top of my head. Good luck.

Where are the button polyps located? Is there a good flow towards them? Many polyps require moderate flow to them to carry away their slimes.

I would be really helpful to diagnose further if you can provide stats of your water parameter.

Have you ever feed the polyps other then just lights?

i dont dose iodine ,its a ten gallon nano tank so i do weekly water changes however i recently got out of the bad habbit of poring in top off water made up of kalk .and chances are good that this might have been poured over them. would one time do it or would it have to be all the time, also if it was once would they slowly decline?.........oh my alk is a little on the high side but is in check now,and i dosr b-ionic in the morn ,and kalk top off water at night when lights are out, could it be that i need to dose iodine,i was led to belive that weekly water changes would cover all trace elements in such a small system, the only other thing i use is chemi-pure ......thanks for your time and response

I saw something similar to that in a system where kalk was added with the makeup water once per day and it was repeatedly poured in a spot that exposed some buttons to it. I don't know if it was shock from the sudden salinity drop or if it was the ph swing or what, but the buttons were affected. Could be something to consider.

I would be very careful when dosing Kalk to a nano tank. Nanos are hypersensitive to overdosing, and your additives are not diluted well before they make contact with your specimens.
