I am victim of my own success! , the toadstool I have has more than doubled in size in the last year with no signs of stopping so my question is this can it be trimmed around the edge? is this even possible? its a great looker and I'd love to keep hold of it but if push comes to shove then I will have to find a new home for it in the future :(

Congrats
Now comes the fun part.
Just start triming the edges.
I usaually cut big enough pieces off to trade back to the LFS.

I use superglue (gel type) to glue the frag onto a piece of liverock.

blot dry a piece of rock with a paper towel, placer adab of glue on it and let it set for about 1 minute.
Then I hold the new frag onto the glue for about 1 more minute.
Place it back into the tank, and it should take off.

Good luck

I hear ya,

I had a toadstool that was a half dallor size when i got him and grew to a size bigger than a dinner plate. Awesome to look at , but it started to shade one part of the tank.

trimming should be just fine. I was moving a rock in my tank the other day not realizing the toadstool had attached itself. Well I ripped a good chunk off of my little frag and now both pieces are doing just fine.

There are many ways to frag big leathers. I personally like to cut the whole head off. The base will re grow in polyps very fast. The top can be cut into many frags and attached. I dont really like super glue for leathers IME it doesnt work well. I prefer putting them into a shallow tupperware with crushed coral or rubble rock and let them attach to that. This method always worked best for me.

Thanks for info but to be clear if I trim edge I will have strips, do you then cut these up into squares for instance?,is it wise to do it in one go?
thanks

I usually trim into ear shaped pieces, not strips or squares.
Think about what size you would want to buy if your the customer.

FWIW, I would give a Kent Tech-D or Lugoles dip on the new cuttings.
I haven't had a problem, but it seems to speed up the recovery.
