Introducing Marine Aquarist Courses Online 2003
http://www.reefs.org/maco/

Reefs.org is excited to announce the expansion of our Marine Aquarist Courses Online (MACO)! This is our fourth year offering online courses to marine hobbyists, and this year MACO is better then ever! We have significantly revamped our user interface and course offerings. Reefs.org is thrilled to announce that for 2003 we have the following noted marine hobbyists and authors teaching MACO 2003 online courses:

  • * Eric Borneman
    * Brian Ferguson
    * Scott Michael
    * Anthony Calfo
    * Sanjay Joshi
    * Robert Fenner
Unlike years past when we only offered one or two courses per year, Reefs.org will be offering MACO online courses year round! We are extremely excited about what this year’s MACO has to offer to you as a marine hobbyist. Many of the instructors are also regular contributors to our online magazine Advanced Aquarist, so in addition to being able to read their latest research into various facets of the marine hobby, you as a student can also directly interact with them on a one-on-one basis!

Course Costs:

Borneman: $75 course + book costs

Reefs.org hopes that you take advantage of this valuable resource! We are confident that MACO can be an enriching, affordable experience for everyone. Remember: an educated hobbyist is a successful hobbyist.

Fantastic - great idea.

I am very interested in this, but first and foremost for my job, I need 2 semester units to advance myself on the teacher pay scale.

I'm curious... are credits offered for any of these? They certainly could be, with the vsat experience and education of the course providers.

Calfo really knows his stuff and is cool to boot. Sounds like he's got a degree of some kind, as do the rest.

They should be able to work something out for credits, if it's not already in place.

Any info on this?

At this point in time, there is no college credit option. However, the topic has been discussed amonst the operators as this would be a very nice feature for an online course.

Thanks for your interest! :)

I am very interested in the Acrylics class. Can you tell me what day and time the chats will be held each week? Shoud I download and install Mirc? The site wasn't 100% clear on the irc thing, or I'm just a little dense.

Ok, I signed up for the DIY course and downloaded and installed mIRC. I am following the instructions that are shown on the MACO page. The problem is when I get to the part where I am to select "perform" under the "irc" tab. There is no "perform" option under "irc". "Perform" is under the "connect" tab. Should I just fill in the same information in the "perform" option under "connect" ?

I want to be able to test this out before the first class!

I have made repeated efforts from two different machines to complete my registration for the DYI calc reactor course, but can't get thru the entire registration process. I typically run Netscape on a MAC, and am even willing to try a PC if that is what it takes to log-in. Anyhow, since today is the last day for registration, I'm beginning to get very nervous about missing the deadline. What do you suggest?

Thanks for the pointer Liquid. The link that you specify takes me farther than the other two, but I still get stuck. At this point, all I am trying to do is figure out how to pay for the calcium reactor course. MACO and Brian were kind enough to allow me to register my email rather than thru the MACO website, but now I need to pay you guys. I am having problems whether accessing from my MAC at home (Netscape 4.7 and Explorer 5.5) or my MAC at work (Netscape 7.0). What do you think that I am doing wrong?
