I've never tried the Durso standpipe. However, it seems that bulkhead drains drilled on the BACK wall of the tank near the top is a better plumbing option than standpipes. No space is wasted in the tank. Does anyone use this? How quiet is this alternative?

No I've never used that alternative but I think I't will make just as much noise but than your stuck with a configuration were you are limited in options to reduce the noise.

P.S. Everyone I have solved my problem my system is COMPLETELY QUIET and I mean COMPLETELY. guess what did i't? A $4.99 ball valve from home depot!

Ball valve trick does work, however you increase the risk of a drain getting plugged by restricting it.

By the restriction working, it hints back that the you were draining water to fast with pipes that were to large.
