How do you convince your wife?

Brian, Ah, the art of staying married.

No, you don't tell her, don't give her any hints that you've just acquired a $150 delicate specimen that if not properly taken cared of, will die in matter of days. Better yet, setup a postal mailbox and apply some of your credit cards with that PO Box address, and sneek around during your lunch break to retrieve the credit card bill and with all those hard saved lunch money, you go buy a money order at supermarket and send the payment out. In the end, you will get a diet as well!

When your spouse find the specimen in the tank. Either tell her it has been in your tank long ago but just playing hide and seek, or tell her you have always been amazed what could grow on LRs out of thin water.

When the animal died in your tank, make sure you are the first one to find that out and scoop it out to a deep pit dug in the backyard. Camouflage the pit as you might need it again years down the road. Go back home and tell your spouse that thing must been playing hide and seek again.

The key to this is never admit, even if she asked you directly. You dodge the question and never admit. It takes only once admitting you've done a bad bad thing, you will have "liar" marked into your forhead for the rest of your marriage.

Or better yet, be single like me :)

I used to feel bad when I lost $100+ dollar fish, but I've grown disturbingly desensitized to it all. One (of many) justifications is that if people can bring themselves to spend hundreds on fine wine, cigars, food, or other consumables, expensive fish really isn't all that outrageous.

Please don't bust my bubble ;)

danmhippo: It's nice to know I'm not the only one doing these things. :D Have you been spying on me 8O . I tell my wife that the difference between the expensive rocks I collect (corals, etc.) and the expensive rocks she collects(gold, diamonds, etc.) is that at least mine are alive. Al
