Even though the tank may look empty to you, the eel and the puffer would surely disagree if they could talk or post here.

These 2 will be fine in the 55 for a couple of years.

And so will you, once you adjust the expectation of visual paradise, based on seeing tanks teeming at fish stores, to the reality of supporting exotic wildlife in a small glass box.

Looking at a crowded tank is a pleasure to those who are outside, but being inside or managing such a tank can be a nightmare.
Many of us have been through the school of hard knocks and smart people learn from other people's mistakes.

i think he'd like a more...vibrant community. i bet we could come up with a small list of itty-bittys that would accomplish that end. i'm just too tired to go looking for my mags and books right now, hun.

What other fish / critters can I add with these 2 fish in my 55?

You are kind of shooting in the dark anyway with this question. There are thousands of possible responses. I recommend the Scott Michael guide as suggested above.
