Hey all,
I was wondering if the cold weather would effect live rock in the shipping stage if it was alittle on the frosty side, just the fiji rock without all of the critters on it. Wondering about the coraline alge if it would be ok if it was frozen, because it has been like 6 all week.
Thanks for any replies,
Jay

If you did get this shiped, don't let UPS or Fed-ex handle it.
I would pisk it up at the airport.
If that isn't possible, I would pay a little more and go through a LFS.

Just my 2 cents

completly agree with lfs42, if i order anything online i always go pick it up. you dont want your stuff sitting in a truck for 6 hours before you get it.

here is a letter from liveaquaria.com...i had written to them asking if i could do pickup from the airport.

"Dear Tony,

Thank you for your email.

We apologize that at this time we no longer are able to have the orders delivered to the airport. If you would like to pick up the order from the Federal Express Station we can certainly arrange that, but you would have to place this as the ship to address on your order. The cold weather will not really affect the rocks when they are shipped out to you. With many of our Live Aquaria orders we do pack the boxes with heat packs to ensure the safe arrival of the specimens to your tank. If you would like we can upgrade the shipping on the Live Rock to 1-Day Air, and this would be $1.49 per pound. This would be another way to ensure that the rocks arrive to you quickly, and with as little die back as possible.

Again we do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If we can be of additional assistance, please contact our Live Aquaria Department at 1-800-334-3699 or via email. If you should need assistance while on our web site please feel free to contact our Live Help. Our Live Help is available Monday through Friday 7 A.M. 7 P.M. CST"

I got my rock from them in october, Their idea of good packaging was a carbord box, a plastic bag, a heat pack in it.
No styro cooler
My shiping and recieving guy thought I was crazy for having it shiped to work (the real job), but I knew UPS would leave outside for it to get cold till I got home.

Don't get me wrong, the company and the rock was fine and if was spring I would do it again, but it was a high of 10 deg F. today. I don't think anything should sit in a cold bock like that.
