I'm thinking on going with the Icecap 250W E-Ballast and Iwasakis. I've heard the Iwasakis are fairly yellow, True?

I plan on supplementing with URI, VH actinics.

Question: Is there a better 250 watt system, or is this one good? Second, I've heard of overdriving some bulbs to peak them out at a brighter light i.e. radium 400W 20,000K's.

Is there a 250W application for overdriving, or is this not necessary with the Iwasaki/Icecap combo?

I'm also upgrading to the spider reflectors.

Well, I guess no response means it's an ivalid question, or after 31 posts no one thinks it warrants a reply.

Just needed some ideas. It's a shame this forum has degraded to a flame-site where open ideas are squashed.

Perhaps if membership slowly dwindles down to the esoteric few that feel they own this board, and topics of any meaning dry up, things will once again revert to the true meaning of discussion boards.

Well, I "veiwed" your question when it first came out and didn't reply because I have no experience with the bulb or the ballast that you have..

I "viewed" it the second time because I saw that someone had responded and I was curious as to the response.

Weekends are slow at RDO, so get your panties out of a tight. Maybe someone will help you on Monday!

That's a good way to get feedback- bash those to whom you are looking for help!

Why don't you give us some more information, such as tank dimensions and what you plan on keeping.

Personally I like the iwasakis. Plan on supplementing them as they look quite yellow/green. I have 3x400W iwasakis, and I supplement it with 4x96W true actinics.

My questions are these: Why use e-ballasts? They don't provide that much benefit over conventional ballasts, especially if you are a DIY kind of person. You can get conventional ballasts much cheaper. Second, why do the 250W over the 400W? There is little to no price increase from the 250W to the 400W- that goes for ballasts as well as bulbs. The only cost difference is the electricity.
