Hey, how's it going? I go to Tong's & Pacific Reef all the time also, but haven't had a chance to check out Jeff's Exotic yet. How's the quality of their fish & corals there? I usually get all my fish & corals at Tongs, since everything there looks a lot 'healthier' than Pacific Reef. -Ben

PS - Jason - Nice tank!

Jeff's is pretty cool. It's nothing like Tongs though. We are pretty lucky to have a store like Tongs around here (besides the prices). I like Jeff's for the people, Specials/Sales, Live Rock and ability to find special items.

I agree. I live right off of Beach & Warner, so Tong's is just a couple blocks away and I haven't seen any other LFS with their kind of quality, if you're willing to put up with their prices. They've been my home away from home for the past few weeks, since I've been upgrading a lot of my equipment and have been doing constant water changes, since my skimmer's a POS (Super Reef Devil) and hasn't broken in yet. I ordered a Typhoon 3 RO/DI filter a few days ago, which should save me a lot in the long run. -Ben

Ever heard of Aquatic Fantasy? Its in Redondo Beach. Really nice but also quite expensive.

No I haven't. They are about 40 minutes from my house. Maybe I will check them out. Is it worth the drive?

I love mine. It works great. Filled up my 190g tank with 40g sump in about 3 days.

It's worth it to just go down and check out their 3 shark holding tanks. They had two black tip reef sharks that were really cool to watch, two huge nurse sharks, some huge rays, and a bunch of smaller bamboo sharks.

Depending on how far along my cycle is I might go down and buy a bunch of snails (gives me an excuse to make the trip).

Hey fellas, this is my first post.

I've been to a lot of the stores mentioned here. I mostly frequent stores in the Los Angeles area. My favorite stores are:

Aquatic Fantasy in Redondo Beach - pricey and not super helpful, but they have a pretty good selection of fish and corals. They give you a punch card so every $250 you spend, you get $25 store credit.

Neptune's Reef in Torrance - reasonable prices. They have a much better fish selection than corals. They always seem to have good crocea clams though.

Aquatic Outlet in Inglewood - They're actually right next door to Flying Fish Express. I find that pretty interesting as they pretty much have the same selection as FFExpress. I've ordered a lot online from FFExpress and was always kinda frustrated that I live only 30 min from the but had to pay shipping (actually, there are ways to get around that). I think aquatic outlet has a really nice selection, but the last time I was there, I counted about 12 dead fish in their displays. I wasn't too pleased about that.

For those of you in HB, there's a new store opening up at Gothard between McFadden and Edinger... Reef Collection I believe (right across from GWC and in the same complex as Kathy May's). I don't think they are quite open yet. I passed by the other day and they seemed to have most of the inside done, but it didn't look like they were stocked yet.

Tongs pisses me off. I was there today. I asked him "So, who has tanks big enough to hold these nurse sharks you have"....His response was "These guys don't swim around a lot. They would be ok in a 120, this one would be ok in a 80 gallon tank"....

Dude...

I was there 2 weeks ago. They can get you anything at competitive prices. They can also beat any online store prices too.
