Before introducing any new fish to my aquarium I would like to put them in a 30 gallon tank for a couple weeks to get them started on eating frozen foods and treat any infection or disease. It will have a DSB and a couple pieces of live rock for hiding. Does this tank need a protein skimmer? And if so which one do you advise I get?

Copper is going to kill most things that would inhabit a DSB or LR. Skimmers will also take out alot of meds as well. IMO, the best thing would be a bare tank with a piece of PVC for hiding a some type of PH or HOB filter for water movement and WC as the principle waste controller.

I don't quarantine my fish anymore since I only buy them from one LFS. Before anything goes in their displays, they are quaratined/treated in the back for at least 2 weeks and are readily eating. Granted their prices are higher, but I am almost assured a healthly specimen.

I quarantine everything to make sure I don'yt introduce parasites. It's kept me from getting any flatworms, aiptasia or pyramid snails. My fish have never had asingle case of ich either.

I run a powerfilter rather than a skimmer and the tank has no substrate. When I'm quarantining inverts I don't feed much at all so organics are not much of an issue. When I'm quarantining fish the nitrates aren't an issue. I do regular water changes as well.
