I called a store in upstate NY today to ask if they carried Sea Swirls and they told me it's not worth buying them now because a new design for it is coming out in a couple months. Has anyone else heard this? Is it true? What new features will it have? Rotate up and down as well as side to side perhaps?

hi.
I doubt that a company will leak out such an info without price reduction on the older models. Retailer will not be happy with old stock that no one buys... just my 2 cents

That would be cool. As it is now, I have to throttle back my pumps to prevent the sea swirls from pumping water over the front of the tank. :x

Carpentersreef, I don't own a sea swirl so this is just an idea. Maybe try siliconing a 45 degree PVC elbow on the end of the head?

All I'm aware of is the quieter motor on the 1" sea swirls. The verticle adjustment would be nice, but keep mind, you (the consumer) is going to pay for it. I have no need for it, so I'm perfectly happy with the unit as is.

The current design is a proven design that works well. I'd be more worried about getting a new untested model.

The Sea Swirls can already be adjusted vertically since they do use lock line piping. So I am not sure how something can be adjusted "vertically" when its already possible.

That would be exciting! Of course, that would also be very expensive (2 or 3 way motor)!

hi.
Not necessarily. It can be just regular joint with motor that rotate the output in a circlar manner, like the "RioMotion" style.

My guess is that they were referring to the upgraded motors in the 1" models. Ed has upgraded to a quieter motor now.
I never had one of the older versions, but mine is very quiet

How long do they last? I have had mine for 6 months and for some reason I fear a failure.

My two 1" models have been running non stop for 16+ months and never miss a beat.

I would think that upgrading the "motion" would make the sea swirls even more expensive than they already are, and may lose quantity sales, but I also thought the "upgrade" was the 1" getting a new motor too.

I have 2 of the 3/4" SS. I had one fail after 2 years of constant usage. Packed it up, shipped it to Ed, and for $50 got it fixed. Don't know what all was replaced inside, but they now have a different type of pipe coming down out of the box. Used to be white pvc, and the darn loc-line fittings fall off. The new one is black with almost a gray rubberized look to the last 1"-1 1/2", not near as slippery as before. It was a lot harder to push the loc-line on. This is a good thing! :D

My 1" Sea Swirl finally failed at about 2 years old. I will be sending it back to Sea Swirl and getting it fixed at a nominal charge. 2 years, IMO, is an amazing length of time, given how close this mechanical device works with harsh saltwater environment.
