one of the lfs's by me has about 5 heads in thier show tank, and the guy won't sell me any, he says they are illegal to sell!

Can anyone confirm if it IS illegal to sell ricordia in NYC/NY? I need solid proof. (maybe he will sell me a head if I can prove it is OK.)

The rock is what's illegal, since its from Fla or Caribbean origin. Loose shrooms or propogated ones are ok. And thats only for R. florida anyway.

Dan is right. It's illegal to take the rock, so the Orange ricordea is so expensive from here because the divers have to go down and chip off individual shrooms from the rock. What's left is a nice polyp with a little bit of rubble on it to glue onto another "legal" rock. We get $5 a piece here for them, so $7 in CA isn't too bad, considering the cost of shipping!

Now the true red ricordea is like $80-85 a leaf here retail (per shroom)!! Ant they sell like crazy!
