For our members wishing to post pictures for our community to see, I recommend www.pbase.com or www.photo.net.

To post images on Reefs.org's bulletin board, follow these steps:
1. Upload your images to Photo.net or Pbase.com.
2. Right click on the image in either site. Properties window will appear.
3. Copy the image url in the properties window.
4. In the message body of your post, click the Img button
5. Paste the Photo.net/Pbase.com URL of the intended image
6. Click the Img button again.

The image will now be displayed in your post. It's extremely simple.

A few things to keep in mind:
- Keep images reasonable sized. <200K is a good target size
- Images should all be under 450 horizontal pixels in order to conform to the bulletin board's dimensions.

Please be respectful of these sites by abiding by their user agreements and supporting their sponsors. We all would like to have this service exists for years to come!

So let's see those pics! :)

Thanks for the help, Len!

What size should we try for on the pics? (In kb, I suppose?)

I don't want to bog down the dialup connections too badly.

:D

Addendum:

I would recommend photo.net over pbase.com. The two primary reasons are 1. pbase outside linking does not seem to work all the time and 2. pbase has stated it will begin charging for their image hosting services in the near future.

Thanks Leonard that does clear it up a bit. It was the right click that was escaping me. Photo.net hosts in three sizes. Is it best to attach the small size to the posting? Will the picture show up on preview?

In case you guys hadn't noticed, you can now upload your images directly to reefs.org. When posting a message, towards the bottom, you will see the place to "Add an Attachment". If the attachment is an acceptible mime type, like an image (gif/jpg), or even an .avi or flash (.swf) it will show them inline in your message. Other file types users will have to click to get the attachment.

There are, of course, file size restrictions.

Enjoy!
