Hi,

I've been having lots of problems with my tank that I'm convinced are attributable to poor water quality due to lack of flow in the tank and through my sump. I had a Quiet One Pump that I liked because it was silent but with all the back pressure resulting from how my tank is set up, it just wasn't doing its job. Also, I've read here that the Quiet One adds heat to the water so I was also hoping my chiller would go on less.

Based on research here and elsewhere, I bought the Dolphin Aqua Sea 4700. It moves a lot more water and its pretty quiet but my chiller is going on way more, not less. Why? I can see how the Aqua Sea should add less heat to the water as the motor and impeller are on different assemblies. Could the additional heat simply be from the additional friction caused by a lot more water movement?

Thanks,

John

John,
Your new pump may generate more heat inside the stand than that of your old pump. This heat can warm the water in the sump causing you chiller to run more often. Add some cool air flow into the stand with a fan to see if this is the case.
Hope this helps,

hi.
You are absolutely correct when you mention that heat is generated when water moves around.

Take a look at the difference in wattage between the QO and AS, you will probably adding at least half of that energy to your water directly.

Thanks, I do think that more heat is being added to my cabinet and I need to ventilate that better. I also agree that the AS is much more powerful and perhaps generates much more heat as a result.

One thought I've had is that the water movement is so much faster compared to the QO that the chiller (inline) is not having enough time to chill the water -- each molecule of water just moves too fast through the chiller. Does that make any sense?

Thanks again for the replies,

John
