I have a finger leather coral for about 6 weeks. The coral reminds me of your hand facing palm up. It is shaped like a hand with finger like extensions arround the edges of the hand. I have 465watts of VHO light and 2 150watt MH for a total of 765 watts. The tank is a 125 gallon and it is 21" deep. The finger leather is about 1/2 way down in the tank, 18" from the lights.

I am wondering if this is too much light. The finger leather seems to be doing fine. However, I noticed that it has some yellowish marks on some of the edges, and on it's base. The base is shaded from the light by it's "hand".

Are the yellow marks normal? Does anyone know how much light these corals need? Any advice is welcome. It is my understanding that you do not directly feed these corals. Can you confirm?

Thank you for your help.

what type of lighting conditions was it in at the lfs?your leather is a light loving coral, and should do o.k. with what you got, but if the lighting at the store was markedly different, then it should be acclimated to your lighting, if noticeably stronger.are the yellowish areas increasing, or is this how you got it? :)

The leather was in a 48"x24x36 150 gallon tank. The owner had Mh & VHO. It was about 30" from the lights.

I noticed the yellow after I had it for about 2 weeks. The yellow is less now. Not to imply that there was alot of it, but the yellow spots were about the size of a capital "O" on a few of the tips of the fingers and edges only. The other larger spots were on it's base above where it attached to the rock, which is shaded from the direct light by its top.
