I just got a yellow tang for my 20 gal!!! :D I'm so excited to see the little guy in there interacting with the other fish. He's a bit of a bully, but I'm sure he'll adjust. All of my friends love him. Any of you guys have yellow tangs?

Whats the problem? I thought people would be happy to hear about a new fish? The guy at the fish store was real cool, and told me the fish would be perfect for me. Was he lying or something? Why would he?

Or are you guys trying to get at this is a bad fish and will kill my other fish? I don't understand.... :?:

ut oh here we go...again!

The majority of members will tell you that a yellow tang or any tang is not appropriate for a twenty gallon- no matter how small the tang is. Please see if you can return the fish to the store or trade with another hobbyist. I would recommend only very small fish for a twenty-fish whose adult size is less than 2 inches. There is a Goby that is just as bright yellow as a yellow tang that would be great for your twenty. I am no expert but believe me have alot of experience killing fish since 1987 due to mistakes like putting a yellow tang in a twenty.

Uptown- i hope this is a joke. If not, expect to get criticized.

Did you do any research on the fish before you bought it or did you blindly take the advice from someone who profits from every fish that dies in your tank?

The yellow tang, Zebrasoma flavescens is a quite active fish that roams quite a bit in nature and can be very territorial. The minimum tank size for this fish (and I emphasize minimum) is 110g. You are short by about 90 gallons.

Take the fish back before it dies and demand a refund. Remember, every fish you kill, another one is taken from the sea to take its place at the fish store.

Im not being critical.. I have a 20high and wouldn't even consider a tang for that tank... I am having a difficult time even making any desicions on what to put in mine.. I do believe I will add a pair of clowns to mine and that may actually be all.. 8O

All- dont be so hard on the guy- this just happens to too many of us new guys. I dont think that there are many LFS's that wouldnt jump at the chance to take money out of your wallet- for any reason. And too many of us trust them- after all, they are supposed to be the experts- wish I had all my $$ back from bad LFS advice

*** uptown- I inherited a 30 gallon with a clown tang in it. Figured my friend who had it for a couple years, knew what he was doing. Wrong. Not everyone care enough to get this far in the hobby. You are in the right place though- read all you can here.

I am waiting for a new 100+ gallon reef to go into my wifes work- lucky wife... anyhow, I will be donating the clown tang then. You might want to think of similar things to do. Be prepared for your lfs to get "snippy" when you want to bring him back against thier advice. They wont like that. I called BS on some guys in my LFS, guess how popular I am?

In short UT- do some reading here, enjoy your tank, and be wary of your LFS advice. Post it up here before you act- this has saved me 200$ worth of sand I didnt need, lighting that had bad ballasts, etc etc.

My 2 cents.
