I have a tank with a clear acrylic center brace and I want to run either a 400w 10k or 400w radium. Is this a good idea or should I run dual halides??

Do the dual. I have 1 400 w radium between 2 250 DE 10K's - when the radium alone is on it actually covers a fair amount of the tank...but my tank is still empty......
Before I bought my 120 I asked the group almost the same question. I was considering removing the center brace so that I could use one pendant MH. I thought the bright center with darker edges would have a dramatic effect. If I used the one center MH without removing the brace, I would be left with an upside down V shadow in the center of the tank-not dramatic but stupid. I ended up using the two MH because I was warned that removing th ecenter brace would not be safe if the center brace is stiff to the touch-meaning that it provided structural support. If it was flexible, it would have been safe to remove.
I still like the single pendants and believe it would work well on a corner tank.
I use 2 - 400 watt radiums on the sides and a 400 watt 6500k Iwasaki and 220 watts pc over the center brace on my 120 AGA.
I run the return from my refuge over my center brace which keeps it cool and also serves as a snail breeding ground
