easy coral

i was wondering... what are the easiest corals to maintain? i heard that mushrooms are pretty easy. but what other nice, colorful corals are pretty easy to maintain in a 33 gal tank??

mushrooms are easy and they come in a variety of colors. I always found leathers easy to keep but others may disagree. Most polyps are less difficult, try some star polyps or Zoanthus, if these do well try some Pumping Xenia.

personally, yellow polyps are about the easiest things out there. My colony at home seems to produce new buds every water change.

I've always had easy success with colt coral. Get ready to frag, though.

i would also suggest a bigger leather like colt, but like was stated, get ready to frag.
(same goes with xenia)

Mushrooms are very easy as well as leathers, zoanthids, and Ive seen Euphyllia species do very well under less than optimal conditions.

I have a very high respect for anyone with your attitude.......Trust me! Tell me a bit moer about the Brains..ok?

My brain is a wesophilia. It basically needs good lighting, and medium waterflow. If the water flow is too high it will not open all the way. We wouldn't want that! Anyhow, these guys get really meaty. They puff up so much its funny. At night it pretty much inverses and shows its tentacles. Also, when the Hermies climb on it they look like they fell on a air bag from a stunt movie. They just deflate. If you decide to get one don't be worried the slime they produce its just acclimation. They also take a crap every once in a while. It is very important to maintain calcium and alkalinity.

Lastly, I just wanted to say that I am stocking my reef tank with only easy to care for corals. It's still gonna be beautifull. Why would I want to get all stressed over a hundred dollar coral that will probably die. My theory is that maintaining hardy corals benefits my pocket book, the ocean, and others who get free frags! Fight over harvesting of the ocean!

Ps - watch for free frags by me in the near future!!!!

I like that pic........I have pretty much decide to go the "easy" and "hardy" route myself.........regardless of it being inverts,fish,or corals. Much leass hurt on the pocket book,time,and the environment.

i was told from my LFS that brains weren't that easy. i'll ask again... maybe i heard wrong. do clowns like brain coral? if i got a brain coral, would i place it around the middle of the tank?... in a vertical sense. and just keep the powerheads pointed away from it?

Fragging a coral means propogating it; make a "fragment." For colts and other branching soft corals, it's as easy as cutting off a limb and attaching it to a spare piece of rock. Colts grow fast, though, hence the warning about preparing to frag.

Colts are very hardy, attractive, and excellent hosts for tank-raised ocellaris clowns (false percs). If you do a search of my posts, I posted a pic of my clowns in the host colt maybe 2-4 months ago.

Scorpion-

Place it on fine sand with plenty of space around it to expand. Mine is up front by the glass but far enough away that I can still wipe the glass down. DON'T EVER LISTEN TO THE LFS! I bought a very rare orange ricordia like one shown above for 10 dollars baby! They thought it was a baby open brain coral. ----So Stupid---but yay for me! :lol:
