I have recently started feeding my tank with ESV phytoplankton formula. During this same time I have also noticed that the tank has started developing macro algae. I have no problem with this frankly the different type of macro has added a nice diversity. I guess my question is do you think this is as a result of the addition of the phytoplankton. Has anyone else experienced the same.?

yep. Unless you have something that specifically needs phytoplankton, I wouldn't go through the trouble of using it.

I'm sure they use some of it, but they don't need it. If you do use the stuff, you have to target feed, otherwise, you'll end up fouling the tank.

ESV's Spray dried Phyto if used properly can be benefical to your tank. I still use some from time to time(I now use DT"s and Golden Pearls). But you need to put it in a blender and break it up into smaller pieces. By runing it in a blender for two minutes with some water you can break its size down to a more readily taken in particle size. Once this is done it becomes quite beneficial. If not the particle sizes are too big for consumption. Once blended I just poured the soup in front of a powerhead.

As well make sure you don't put too much in. Or you may get algae blooms. Start small then slowly ramp up the amount fed.

Take a read of 2002 Marine FIsh annual and you will get all kinds of great info.

I basicaly dose the tank twice a week. I have some really nice looking blue, red, and green macro growing. I would say about the only unsightly thing growing would be the bubble stuff thats starting to get out of control.
