Can anyone ID this guy for me. I captured him tonight looking for the source of the mysterious clicking sound coming from the tank. He did a "click" after I put him in this container. I have found several Mantis looking shrimp babies in the tank also. Did I catch the wrong guy?

Pistol shrimp. They are great and very interesting. It will dig tunnels in your sand and feed on detritus and other meaty matters. It will search it's own food, you don't even need to feed him. If your tank has numerous predators, you may not see him much at all.

8) I have to agree. It looks like a pistol shrimp. I've got a red one in my tank that I purchased. Moves sand around a lot to make his burrow but he won't hurt anything. You will rarely see him if you have a sand bed unless his tunnel comes out where you can see him. You may want to bury a 3-4" piece of PVC in your sand bed (cut in half) up against the glass and try to release him into this. He would probably make it his burrow and allow you to see him on a daily basis.
