I just got a hold of Harbor Aquatics. They said they were, well said this:
Matt

Thank you for the interest in our live rock. We are in the process of replumbing our rock system right now. So we are out of rock and it will be about 3 weeks before we have any available. We are no longer carry the Jakarta live rock i am sorry to say. The quaility that had been coming out was not what i wanted. I can still quote you shipping but would need to know your City and zipcode to do that.

Joy

I can't wait three weeks. I've already waited 4-5 months while researching and my tank is full of ro/di water and mixing the salt. Well guess I'll have to check out the others.
Thanks for the replys Matt :)

I really liked the gulf view rock I got in April. The 30 lb coralline special was a good value when compared to other sites that use FedEx shipping which is pricier than DHL. I asked for specific sized and shaped pieces and got exactly what I wanted, with lots of life. I would order from them again.

Thanks, as always, for your kind words of support for our live rock. Unfortunately, Matt is correct. We are out of live rock completely until early August. After six years of continuous operation, it was time to take our rock system down for major cleaning and upgrades. Unfortunately, there is no real good time to do this. However, summer time is the slowest part of the year for everyone in the industry. Sure, we could have mickey-moused a smaller system to get us by but the quality of the rock would not be the same. It's always my policy to try and do it right the first time or not at all.

The four pools have been cleaned and re-plumbed, we are now waiting for some electrical work to be completed and the RO to fill all the tanks. But when you have 6000G of water to make, even a 1000GPD RO is slow.

In the mean time, if you need rock now and can't wait til ours is ready again, I'd recommend calling http://www.paragonsales.com/ (Paragon Aquatics). Their method of curing live rock is the only one, that I know of, that best matches what we do here.

Thanks again

I had a great experience with Ocean Life International. The web site is : http://www.oceanlife-int.com/

Here is their deal:

They sell BEAUTIFUL Marshall Island rock. The rocks are much nicer than the typical fiji rock, and much more porus than any florida rock with tons of holes and nooks for the fish to play in. They are covered with petrified coral "fingers" and look awesome. The rock is only $2 a pound!!!! Here is the catch....(there always is). They have sold off all of the corraline covered pieces, and are selling what they have left for only $2 a pound. I figured the pieces I was going to get were going to be plain white....but I was surprised to see that every piece had at least a little bit of corraline. So if you can be patient and wait for the corraline to grow...get this rock, its beautiful. I bought 50 lbs. and I will be supplementing it with 30 lbs from gulfview. Once the Gulf View rock is in, the corraline will spread to the other rock. E-mail me if youy want some pics of the rock: [email protected].

Hey sorry JT, but you were the man I wanted to deal with but I just can't stand to look at an empty tank with water in it for a couple of weeks. Hope you understand.

for what it's worth three weeks isn't THAT long is it?

i have mostly gulf view rock and was very happy with the amount of life/quality. that being said i wouldn't get from then again becuae it is just too dense a rock for my taste.

In the mean time, if you need rock now and can't wait til ours is ready again, I'd recommend calling http://www.paragonsales.com

No, its not. Considering I've been researching for about 6+ Months know. Not to mention just wanting to do this but not having the money(college student). But know I have everything I need in place to run a reef(hardware obviously) and hopefully the knowledge from lurking the threads here. I would just like to put all that time and money to work. I know that harbor aquatics is good, maybe the best. Thats why I went to them first. But I also know that there are some other very good places to MO LR from. Obviously I wanted JT and harbor aquatics but is it really worth the 3 week wait. Maybe, but my patience has run out. Besides if I get rock that I really am not happy with, I will hold until Harbor is up and running it and then I have some buddys I can sell it to and then I'll order from them. But for know, I can't wait. It may be unwise to some of you but I also know alot of you like alot of other places too.

Topic aside, Just want to comment on Oceanlife International. As far as I know, this is a subsidiary of the company that sells Catalina water in the West Coast. This company basically sells purified ocean water to the LFS. The subsidiary, Oceanlife International (OI), buys tankers and ship Marshall island rocks from the source, Marshall Island. They claims that their boat huals rocks directly from the point of collection, and are stocked in ship's on board holding tank. As the ship makes its journey back, rocks are constantly being cycled with natural ocean water, thus minimizes impact on LR. After a couple of weeks of journey on the sea, all LR arrives with whatever was supposed to be on the rock, and cured as well.

It's no wonder they can sell them so cheap.........they avoided all the air freight costs. I have not seen their rocks yet, and is waiting for my LFS to get some to test. But I've heard of good words from wholesales in LA about their rock qualities.

We shall wait and see.

No, I didn't MO. But I bought some from my LFS. Pretty nice too. I have 18lbs so far. They had just recieved a shipment of 200lbs. So I got the pick of the litter :D . Although it wasn't as cheap as the MO, $6.50lb. But atleast I didn't have to pay for shipping, and I got to pick the choice pieces. There is nice coralline coverage over all of the rocks and where there was none there is now, since dosing Kalk.
