My God, this stuff actually move in the tank too.
I had it placed perfectly so I could contain it.
Well, it crept up the rock and now I can't seem to stop it.

Weird, like so many others, mine was going crazy for a while and now I have one stalk that is stuggling to survive. Wish I knew the secret... I have the red sea ones and want them to spread!

I guess I have been lucky. Mine is spreading like crazy. I traded about 20 stalks about every 1.5 month to the LFS. Secret is no water change, high alk, no skimmer and salinity higher than my hydrometer can read. Oh and mine is the read sea ones.

I have had similar headaches trying to contain Green Star Polyps. I solved it (I think) by putting the colony on an isolated rock "island." At least GSPs don't get up and walk...

Well a scissors, that would be cool if I could cut them down, but it's like cutting jello.
They just start to smear and then you got a whole lot of xenia coming out.
Not to mention they smell.

Right now my hope is to get them to move onto a loose rock that I can isolate into the sand.

I had the same problem and the only way I could kill it all was by breaking my heater in the tank and shocking it for about 6 hours (not intended of course). Of coure a few stalks survived and I can already see it coming back in force in some places.

I couldn't shock the tank, I like my other corals too much.
Ya know, the wife says "I like that, it's pretty"
and the next thing you know...

you've got a handy little pest. I'm glad it's creeping towards a hardy toadstool, who knows what would happen if it was near my galaxy.
I bet it walk right over that in a heartbeat.

Get yourself a decent pair of hemostats. I bought mine at Menard's for about $8. Grab the Xenia at the base and pull it out. IME, this provides two benefits.

1. Some of the Xenia will come completely off the rock, and therefore not grow back.

2. The Xenia that just pulls off the base takes a long time to grow back and doesn't spread quickly.

Either way, the frags that you generate will (should) live and can be traded or given away.

That's how I got this stuff, and your right, it's not growing fast, YET!
But, like I said it's like jello, and it's walking.

Can this stuff be contianed somehow?

The secret is lots of light.

I, too hate my xenia. I will go the hemostat route, and see if I have more luck that way. I have tried kalk paste and it doesn't seem to work.

the best part about hating it, when I brought it home and the wife had a couple days to look at it, she said it wasn't the stuff she wanted.
By then, it was already too late.

i always find it amusing when we get upset with something for doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

You find it amusing because it is not taking over your tank. ;)

Amen to that,
It's almost as bad as a roming anemone.
I mean I can measure the distance it moves in a day. 8O
