Crystal Clear Water Or Not?

My 120gal has been up and cycled for 2 months I just added 2 fish Naso, Coral beauty last week. The sump has plenty of filtration sponges, carbon etc, Live rock, The water isn't 100% crystal clear and I do not know what it is causing it. ANy ideas? Thanks

what type of skimmer are you using?.. i feel skimmers play a big factor in clear water.

Yes,
a lot of nasty stuff comes out of the rear end of big fish like the naso,
without sufficient skimming, it is bound to play a factor in cloudy water.
Even with filter sponges, the poo stays inside and continues to break down into the water. How often to you clean the sponges/ floss/ other poo catching mechanical filtration?
How long ago was the carbon put in?

What do you mean by "Crystal Clear" water. Is it bubble or participles floating in the water.

It looks like particles, my skimmer I have a reef devil which isn't working correctly I used it on my old 55gal. I also have a life reef skimmer that doesn't work correctly either. I get bubbles that are white tons of white bubbles like foam, it looks like laundry in my sump.

i have a reef devil that works great. do you have a picture of it ? in the sump. the way the outlet is positioned makes a huge differance, you could be getting bubbles from it as well as from your drain and the particals could be from several thing's. need more info

I've been having the same issue:sad2: .

At first I thought I was being too picky, but after seeing a few other reef tanks lately, mine definitely looks dirty in comparison.

I run carbon 24-7 in a fluval canaster without sponges. Seems to keep the water fairly clear for me.

I'm running a phosban reactor and I'm wondering, if I got another reactor and put carbon in and ran both reactors would that help?

Here is my setup: I did another water change and siphoned any crap that may be contributing to the cloudiness. My skimmer looks to be working much better but I noticed microbubbles entering my tank. I just cleaned/replaced sponges etc. the light is the camera flash. All I see is microbubbles and no particles floating.

HOw fast does your skimmer cup fill? looks like you skimming to much wet and not enought dry.. maybe you should open the valve a little more to allow allow more dry skimmate

The skimmer has no valve to control what goes in the MAG9.5 attached is pumping full speed.

It looks pretty clear to me. Did you test your water paramters? Is it possible that maybe the powerheads and pumps and too pwerful and the sand is still floating around? Just a thought.

Everything is fine as far as water parameters just microbubbles entering tank.

Thats a common problem. I've been battling that years. If you can somehow catch the water coming out of the skimmer into a filter sock of something similar I think you will see a great improvement. Baffles help as well but when everything is up and running it can be a pain to install them. I would also try a foam filter block somewhere along the flow of water in the sump. A combination of these things helped to solve my bubble issues. Good luck!

Filter socks and make sure you shake the sponges and mash them together good under water when you change them so all the air is out of them..

Filter sponges trap debris that break down and produce nitrates which are bad in a reef tank.

its a FOWLR non reef.

I retract my statement partially, There is something in the back of my mind that says high nitrates aren't good for fish either, they can tolerate higher levels but not extreme highs.
