I just received my dual pfo kit and i was amazed at the size of the ballast. Where did you guys end up putting this monster?..Right now im undecided whether to stick it in the stand or try putting it off to the side of the stand, give me some ideas guys...Thanks.

My ballasts are in my stand, but I prefer to have them outside because of the heat they transfer to the sump in my stand. Plus, it's safer to have them outside, well-ventilated.

I have pendant type MH fixture. I leave the ballast in the attic. Placing them in the cabinet, just as Len mentioned, adds a great deal of heat and is really not a safe location to put high voltage equipments.

I put my ballast in an old fuse box and run a long cord to the lights so I can keep the ballast away from the tank and potential water spills.

I have my ballast under my stand, but I had to install a clip on fan to help cool it. Beofre I did and the ballast would heat up, it would begin to smell like... well.. feet. Not very pleasant.

Too bad it didn't smell like mine! You'd have the wonderful fragrance of lilac permeating your house  Go ahead...ask my wife!

I keep my ballasts either under the tank in the stand or next to them when there is room to do so.

I have that same dual halide PFO ballast sitting next to the tank on a little shelf I made. I wouldn't put it in the stand unless you want a temperature problem, they throw off a toooooooon of heat! Fans inside the stand blowing out to keep the heat out would help.

I have 3 duals and one single under my reef in seperate cabinets that are made of formica, and I have to keep the wood doors open all the time in the summer with Ice Cap fans blowing the hot air out. Make sure that what ever you put on/under/near the ballast won't warp over time, because they are heat generating machines.

I have the dual 250 PFO setup also. When I was running it on my 90 I had it away from the tank. Now iam using it on my 25 gallon(only running one 250watter though) and I have it in the stand..I don't like this setup but it's been fine for over a year. I'd like to have it away fromt he tank but don't really have room since the tank is in my bedroom don't want to make it look anymore messy
